"I decided that I needed a life coach and after I hit a brick wall with a very specific work related issue. A friend recommended Nicola, and although I had no real idea what the coaching would involve I thought I should give it a try. This last year has been an interesting and challenging time. Nicola introduced me to the enneagram to help me see how my personality type drives the way I see and focus on things and what I need to do, to be both aware of these positives and negatives, and also how to find balance.
Once we determined my enneagram type, Nicola then took me through the clean sweep, needless and the true values programs. These all take time and commitment .I can now see how they build together to form a very clever and solid platform for one's development.
What has been most interesting is that Nicola knew that in order for me to deal with my specific work issue, what it in fact required was not more work or effort in that area, but balance elsewhere in my life. "With one child just away at boarding school and my second one due to go in 18 months, it was time to make a plan as to how I was to occupy myself. Returning to banking in the City after an 8 year gap was not an option in my view. My ideal ‘job’ had to be flexible to accommodate family commitments, yet fulfilling and challenging.
Nicola was giving a talk to an international women’s group I belonged to with a focus on getting back into the workforce or keeping one’s career ticking over whilst following one’s husband to foreign postings. Perfect. I eagerly went along. I was gripped by what she said. What transpired thereafter was truly life-changing.
We worked diligently together for 18 months, firstly on ‘life coaching’ then on my new career. It was hard work. I had to dig deep within myself, challenge myself with some pretty big, yet fundamental questions. The process, with Nicola’s calm and encouraging guidance, was amazingly practical and straightforward. Each week, another lightbulb went on, another hurtle jumped over, another blockage overcome. Not an easy task when you are asked to look objectively at your life in order to ‘clear out’ what / who may be draining you, to establish you true values, your needs and your strengths. Every little step was more cathartic and energizing than the last. This part of the process gave me personal clarity.
We then turned to my ‘new’ career. Armed with the knowledge of what I excel at naturally, what I cannot do without in my life, and what inspires and energises me to help me be at my best, we painstakingly drew up a short list of careers that would satisfy the above. The career had to fit me and my life, not the other way around. A very different approach than that which I had followed during a 15 year banking career in 3 countries!
I eventually turned my energies to the world of interior design. I retrained at the Inchbald School of Design in London. I then set up a business with 2 partners focusing on property styling and property staging (literally setting a ‘stage’ for rental or sale). Our clients range from elderly couples, journalists, a retiring Master of Wine, City folk, and even an X Factor judge! The tools that I learned some 6 years ago when working with Nicola have been invaluable.
Sitting at my desk 6 years ago I felt totally overwhelmed, aimless and somewhat unfulfilled despite being a happy person at the core. My life could be so much more, but how??!! Nicola’s practical, unassuming, and uncomplicatedly honest approach is unique. She is a talented professional with a gentle manner, but has a steely determination and directed focus when it comes to seeing her clients meet their goals. I am in a totally different place now to 6 years ago, and one I am at peace with. It is a place of honesty, clarity, and balance.. I have been able to confidently make some major life decisions leading to positive changes. They have all taken time, thought, and tiny steps. "My coaching with Nicola Bunting of La Vita Nuova has been enormously helpful in my personal development overall and in moving me forward professionally over a short time span. About three years ago, in my mid-forties, I started to take stock of my life and concluded there was nothing to complain about: nice, well-paying job, good relationship, lovely apartment, great lifestyle with many foreign trips and exotic holidays.
